MARGAO: Sunday saw Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Luizinho Faleiro evading questions relating to his return to Navelim constituency and Churchill Alemao’s plan to contest the 2017 Assembly election on the Congress ticket.
“Churchill is not in the Congress party. Hence, it would be improper if I comment on someone who is not in the party. As far as I am concerned, I am busy and engrossed in rejuvenating the party with plans to build a second line of party leadership. I have absolutely no time to even think of my personal agenda”, Luizinho said when the media sought to know his views on Churchill’s proposed plans to return to the Congress party and his 2017 election plan.
He said that his only goal for the moment is to build the party to face the challenges facing the state.
While declining to comment on reports of moves by veteran Congress leaders to contest the 2017 Assembly election, Faleiro said that he has set out on a mission not only to build the party but to introduce new blood in the party. “Let me make it very clear that I am not going to be distracted by reports of the old guard planning to return to active politics or other issues. My one point programme for the moment is to build the party to face the challenges”, he said.
Replying to a question, Faleiro pointed out that the Congress party is on a mission to bring in new blood in the party. He cited instances of the constituencies of Cuncolim, Nuvem, Dabolim and Cortalim where the party has succeeded in bringing new blood in the party fold.
“I am happy that I have been able to give a new direction to the party since I took over the reigns a couple of months ago. We have started the process of bringing the new leaders in the party and I am confident that the party will see many young people in the party by the year end”, he said.
