1 dies of monkey fever, toll up 25 in Sattari

VALPOI

A 60-year-old woman from Mauxi-Sattari, who had complained of symptoms of Kaysanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever, breathed her last at GMC Hospital in Bambolim on Sunday.

According to sources, the woman was admitted to CHC Valpoi a week ago, from where she was shifted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim a few days ago.

The residents in the affected villages have expressed concern and fear over increasing number of KFD cases in less than a month and also spotting of carcasses of monkeys in most of the affected villages.

The most affected areas in Sattari are Mauxi, Zarme, Dabose, Kopotde, Karmali-Budruk, Saleli and Pali.

It may be recalled that last year, the KFD had claimed the lives of four people in Pali village in Sattari taluka.

Meanwhile, CHC Valpoi has been conducting a series of advocacy programme in all the affected areas including schools. Blood samples of all patients, complaining of fever, vomiting and loose motions, are taken and sent to the virology department at Manipal.

CHC Valpoi has appealed to all the residents in the affected areas to immediately contact CHC Valpoi in case they find similar symptoms in them.

Over 25 cases of KFD or monkey fever have been reported in Sattari in the last one month.
