A pickup driver from Vasco was killed while two others were injured in a road mishap after the pickup was hit from the rear by a truck on the NH66 highway in front of the Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College at Virnoda-Pernem in the wee hours of Monday.
The truck driver was later arrested in this connection.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 4.15 am as a pickup was carrying poultry towards Mapusa, with the truck proceeding behind.
The truck rammed into the rear of the pickup and sped away.
The impact was such that the pickup driver, Niyaz Zari, died on the spot, while two other persons were injured.
Pernem PI Sachin Lokre conducted the panchanama and the body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for an autopsy.
Pernem Police managed to trace the truck along with its driver Mutappa Kolakar (37) of Bijapur-Karnataka at Dhargal.
The Kolakar was arrested under Sections 281, 106(1) of BNS and Sec 134(a)(b) of MV Act. Further investigation is in progress.
