10 more die of Covid, positivity rate drops

PANAJI
Ten more people died of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours, eight of them unvaccinated, raising the State’s pandemic death toll to 3,675.

Also, the declining trend of daily new infections continued on Tuesday with 1,219 new cases reported at a positivity rate of a further reduced 25.45 per-cent. None-the-less, the mortality rate continued to be a cause of concern.

The team of senior doctors drawn from the pool of heads of departments at the Goa Medical College and entrusted with death audits and strategising to tackle the mortality rate have come to the conclusion that a significant number are dying within 24-hours of admission.

Over the last five days, the State has seen 60 deaths due to Covid. One reason being attributed to the trend of patients coming to hospitals late is the belief that the current wave of infections is driven by the less lethal Omicron variant.

“It is also possible that in a significant number of cases the infection is due to the Delta variant during the current wave. But patients in the belief that it is the Omicron variant, stay isolated at home and rush to hospitals only when their condition worsens,” said a senior doctor.

In some other cases, deaths have been attributed to severe and serious co-morbid conditions in patients who are infected with Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the State’s current active caseload dropped to 10,421 with 2,691 people declared as fully recovered from the disease.
