Two beach shacks on the Candolim beach were gutted in fire on Saturday afternoon resulting in a loss of around Rs 29 lakh. The incident happened at around 11.30 am.
On getting the information, Pilerne fire officials rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control but both the shacks were reduced to ashes.
According to the fire officials, goods like furniture, electrical fittings and music system stored in the shacks were completely destroyed in the blaze. “The fire officials of the Pilerne fire station managed to bring the fire under control but due to the strong winds fire engulfed the two shacks within minutes and destroyed it,” an eyewitness informed.
Former Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo rushed to the spot and assured to help the shack owners. Several other candidates from Calangute also visited the site and promised to help the aggrieved shack owners.
