PANAJI: Goa recorded the highest single-day spike in the new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday with 740 persons testing positive. The spike has pushed the number of active cases to 5,323 and the total confirmed cases to 24,185.
The number of Covid-related fatalities also continues to remain high with 10 more people succumbing to the infection. With this, the number of Covid deaths in the state has touched 286.
The mortality bulletin of Covid cases, released unofficially, disclosed that all 10 deaths occurred at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim with five persons succumbing to the infection in less than 24 hours of being admitted.
The youngest deceased patient is a 28-year-old woman from Bastora who was suffering from Down’s Syndrome. The list of deceased persons also includes a 42-year-old woman from Naroa in Tiswadi, a 51-year-old man from Mandrem, a 63-year-old man from Chicalim, a 65-year-old man from Sada in Vasco, a 68-year-old woman from Curca in Bambolim, a 70-year-old man from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, a 72-year-old man from Borda in Margao, an 82-year-old man from Betim and an 84-year-old man from Porvorim. With the exception of two patients, all others suffered from comorbidities.
The number of beds is gradually decreasing in Covid Care Centers in both the districts. Presently, only 145 out of the 545 beds in North Goa and 485 out of the 1,006 beds in South Goa are vacant.
