Notwithstanding allegations of rigging into the recruitment process, Goa Police has finalised the selection of 1,000-odd candidates for the rank of Police Sub Inspectors and Constables, majority of whom have surprisingly performed outstandingly in the written test.
While the final list of the selected candidates for PSIs is likely to be released next week, at least 90 per cent of to-be constables have secured more than 90 marks in the written test.
The entire recruitment process faced flak from the opposition parties as well the general public, for alleged manipulation of marks in the physical efficiency tests.
Those who passed this test qualified for the written examination held this year.
The department moved ahead with the recruitment amid five panels of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) enquiring into the alleged scam into PSIs recruitment.
Going ahead with the recruitment process for filling the constables’ posts was also questioned but with no response from the authorities.
No action has been taken on the reports submitted to the government just recently. Sources said the current list has paved way for the appointment, as the selected candidates for constables posts will soon be sent for the mandatory training to Police Training School at Valpoi.
The selection has sparked anger among some activists who demanded to scrap the posts in line with the government’s decision to scrap the recruitment process in the Health and public works departments.
