The Agonda Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (TRC) is now home to 103 turtle nests, after 15 Olive Ridley turtles laid eggs at Agonda beach on Monday.
The 15 turtles arrived right from the wee hours of Monday till Monday night.
During daylight, a turtle came and laid 126 eggs at about 8.15 am, while another turtle arrived at one corner of the beach at about 5 pm and laid 10 eggs. About two hours later, another turtle came and laid 81 eggs at another corner of the shore.
Also, 89 turtle eggs found at Cabo-de Rama beach were also shifted to the Agonda TRC on Monday.
The eggs from all 15 turtles were later collected and protected in pits at the Agonda TRC.
Agonda TRC has created a record of protecting 103 pits with 10,633 eggs at its nursery.
According to forest sources, 70 hatchlings from Pit 3 of Agonda TRC were released into the sea on Friday night.
Meanwhile, the Galgibaga TRC, another turtle nesting site in Canacona and the Marine Range (South) headquarters, also has a record nesting of 33 nests with 3,240 eggs and two original pits with an unknown number of eggs.
Between 3.50 am and 5.15 am on Monday, four turtles arrived at Galgibaga beach and laid about 245 eggs, which were later replanted into 3 different pits.
One pit with 127 eggs was shifted from Mobor Beach to Galgibaga as Pit 33 at the Galgibaga TRC.
