A day after the Health Department announced the detection of the first omicron case in Goa, the state’s daily positivity rate on Tuesday rose to 4.03 per cent with 112 Covid-19 cases being detected from among the 2,776 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
This is the steepest rise in Goa’s Covid curve over the last three months.
One Covid-related death was also recorded taking Goa’s total Covid death toll to 3,520 since the onset of the pandemic. The number of active Covid cases in the state has touched 535.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister said five more persons have tested positive for Covid-19 at Dabolim airport. While four of them landed from the UK, one arrived from the UAE.
“Testing is in full swing at the airport. Of the 181 passengers from Air India G492 from UK who were tested, four were positive. Similarly, of the 49 passengers tested after alighting from the Air Arabia AI146 from Sharjah, one has tested positive. Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing,” Rane stated.
To date, a total of 10.96 lakh people in Goa have taken both doses of the Covid vaccine, a number that has been pegged at 94 per cent by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
