Indian nationals living in Goa without identity cards, citizens of Nepal and Bangladesh as well as homeless and beggars were vaccinated at the Don Bosco Panaji and Assagao vaccination centres on Saturday. While at Assagao 345 persons got vaccinated, the Don Bosco centre turnout was huge. “At Don Bosco 813 people without any ID card were vaccinated,” stated Dr Rajendra Borkar, State immunisation officer.
Due to the overwhelming response at the Don Bosco High School the vaccination for persons without identity card is extended by a day, and will be carried out on July 4.
The huge turnout at the Don Bosco centre was due to the initiatitive of CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate’s VFirst Ponje vaccination campaign. This was the initiative with the support of Covid Service Goa, Rotary Club of Panaji, Panaji Midtown, Panaji Riviera and Miramar.
“A team with Natasha Parekh e Simoes, Adv Siddharth Sardessai, Mackenzie Pereira and Chinmay Kamat strived to make the campaign a success,” stated Kishore Sastry, general secretary, BJP Taleigao Mandal and CCP councillor (co-opted).
The government of Goa had decided to vaccinate the Indian nationals without appropriate identity card as well as Nepalis and beggars to vaccinate at two places in North Goa “ Assagao Panchayat and Don Bosco in Panaji. The North Goa collectorate had prepared a list of 200 such people from North Goa.
In Bardes, a total of 114 individuals without proper identity cards were enlisted. These 114 along with 231 from other talukas took the jab at Assagao. Among those who took the vaccine were those from Nepal and Bangladesh too apart from homeless and beggars. There were 124 men and 107 women among these.
People had gathered from morning at Assagao and the health officials from Siolim health centre administered the vaccine. Joint mamlatdar Sandip Gawade, upper clerk Shailesh Kothavale, other employees and Anjuno police personnel were present during the vaccination campaign at Assagao.
