MLAs in 14 constituencies will be hoping to re-write history at the assembly elections, given the unusual record that voters in these 14 constituencies have not elected the sitting legislator for a second successive term in recent times.
The 14 constituencies of Bicholim, Pernem, Tivim, Saligao, Canacona, Cuncolim, Navelim, Velim, Benaulim, Priol, Ponda, Nuvem, Sanguem and Sanvordem have shown that the electorate has shown the door to the sitting MLA in recent times.
For instance, three different legislators have been elected in Pernem constituency over the last three elections.
In Navelim constituency, three different leaders, Churchill Alemao, Avertano Fernandes and Luizinho Faleiro, got elected in the last three elections, while Joaquim Alemao, Rajan Naik and Clafacio Dias had been elected in Cuncolim constituency.
In Tivim constituency, Kiran Kandolkar and Nilkanth Halarnkar got elected in different elections, while Naresh Sawal and Rajesh Patnekar got elected in Bicholim constituency.
In Canacona constituency, Ramesh Tawadkar got elected in 2012 while he was defeated by Isidore Fernandes in 2017.
On the other hand, there are some traditional constituencies where sitting MLAs have been re-elected in successive elections and they include Digamber Kamat (Margao), Vishwajit Rane (Valpoi) and Sudin Dhavalikar (Marcaim).
