140 commercial tax dealers yet to figure on GST portal

Eleven days after the rollout of Goods and Services Tax (GST), 140 commercial tax dealers in the state still don’t have a login account for the GST portal. This was confirmed by Dipak M Bandekar, commissioner of commercial taxes.

the goan I network rPANAJIr rBandekar said, “Till a few days back, 600-700 dealers weren’t the on GST portal. These were mostly mismatches related to PAN. We got most of these cases sorted out, and now only 140 of these dealers await registration.” rWhen asked to elaborate on the mismatches, Bandekar replied, “There are cases, wherein a partner of a firm gave his personal PAN and not his firm’s PAN, while attempting to register on GST portal. Or, sometimes, people reported their name the way it appears on PAN card and not the way it is in the PAN database.” rBandekar assured that the remaining 140 dealers too will get registered on GST portal in time. Everyone covered by GST will have to file the first tax return on September 5. Given that, these mismatches will have to be sorted out before that. rMeanwhile, the state government has taken a stance to be lenient on dealers facing problems during the GST transition. This means that the dealers still have time, but they will have to be on GST portal as soon as possible. rrEntrepreneur training progarmme on GST rPANAJI: With an aim to tap entrepreneurship opportunities, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will organise a training programme for those seeking to be a in Good and Services Tax (GST) Facilitator. rElaborating about the training programme, EDC chairman Sidharth Kuncalienker said, “We are finding an opportunity in GST. We are anyways building entrepreneurs. GST is a highly compliant law, so every small trader cannot hire services of a chartered accountant or any professional because of the costing. So we want to develop these young boys or girls who will take up this sort of tax assistance. They will not be qualified CAs but they will be able to assist the small businesses.” rAs far as eligibility for the course is concerned, the minimum qualification is BCom or BBA and candidates up to 45 years of age can apply. Nonetheless, to apply for the training programme, the candidate should be a resident of Goa for 15 years. rOnce the candidates complete this training programme successfully, they can avail of financial assistance under the EDC’s Chief Minister Rozgar Yojana (CMRY) for self-employment.
