According to sources, the two accused went to the victims house and offered to polish their gold ornaments. The male members of the family had gone out for shopping for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Sources informed that the victims, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, who were present in the house handed over their gold bangles to the two youth.
Sources also said the accused applied turmeric to the bangles and put them in a container after which they told the women to keep it in the refrigerator to get better shine. Following this, they fled from the site.
On suspecting some foul play, the daughter-in-law weighed the bangles at a nearby jewellery shop, where she found the weight of bangles reduced by some gms. No police complaint was filed in this connection.
1 held for possessing narcotics at Mapusa
MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested a 22-year-old resident of Cunchelim on charges of possessing cannabis worth Rs 36,000 at Morod-Mapusa on Sunday night.
Police informed that acting on information from reliable sources that one person was selling narcotics near Essar Trade Centre at Morod-Mapusa, a trap was laid and the accused Sonu Mustakim Tailor was arrested after he was found in possession of 360 gms of cannabis worth Rs 36,000.
Mapusa Police has registered an offence against the accused under Section of 20 (b)(ii)(a) and is investigating the case.
Two women cheated in Morjim
Two unidentified youths cheated two women from Morjim after offering to polish their gold ornaments on Sunday.
