Parents of students who have classes and other regular activities here have complained that the occupation of space within the Kala Academy has severely inconvenienced them and affected the activity of the Academy.
The Kala Academy authorities, speaking on the condition of anonymity have washed their hands off the decision and blamed the Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude for having taken the decision.
"The parking space is completely occupied by the stalls. Not only do regular users have no space to park but even those who are coming to the fair are parking within the Academy resulting in a mess," Julio Heredia a parent whose children take music classes at the academy said.
"If they wanted to have the fair here, they should have cancelled the classes and other activities to avoid this commotion," he added.
His view was echoed by several other parents and teachers who are angered by the hasty decision.
While on weekdays the situation is bad, over the weekend it was far worse with not only there being a crowd at the fair, but the Academy also playing host to a concert where students from other schools of music were also in attendance.
Security guards at the Kala Academy are at their wits end attempting to control the movement of vehicles and parking within the precincts with double parking and lack of drive through avenues being the order of the day.
The decision to shift the Ashtami fair which sees the sale of furniture and other traditional items was taken in a bid to allow the fair to continue after uncertainty prevailed over the fate of it in view of the High Court's order of keeping footpaths vacant for pedestrian use.
