At a time when hundreds of allegedly fraudulent land deals which have come to light following the land-grab Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe has revealed the extent of the real estate potential in the State, a notice declaring a whopping 1.5 lakh square meters parcel of land in sought after Anjuna has raised eyebrows.
The Administrator of Bardez Zone Comunidades has issued the notice earlier last week declaring an area of 1,50,000 sq mtrs situated at Anjuna and belonging to the Comunidade of Anjuna as "vacant for temporary use".
The Administrator Shivprasad S Naik has issued the notice under the Rule 12 of the Goa Daman and Diu Legislative Diploma No. 20/70.
The land, according to Naik's notice is marked under survey No. 206/1 of the land records.
The notice also calls for applications, presumably for "temporary use" it says the land parcel is vacant for but no further information on what type of use the land can be put is given.
"The interested eligible persons may submit their applications in the office of Administrator for the above plot along with all the relevant documents through the Attorney of the Comunidade of Anjuna for further process along with the requisite processing fees as fixed," Naik said in the notice which was published in the official gazette.
Of late, the fear of land fraud in Goa has increased manifold, with multiple arrests including that of trusted government employees surfacing every passing day.
In less than four months of its inception, the SIT, the investigating arm of Goa Police, has received a whopping 340-odd complaints from families suspecting their properties fell prey to scams.
As preliminary inquiries into voluminous complaints have kept the SIT busy, 14 complaints are converted into FIRs and another 28 FIRs from various police stations got transferred to the special team.
While these are the stats till date, there are also instances wherein complaints did not find a place in the SIT. Fifteen such complaints are reverted back to concerned police stations to probe the matter at their level.
