17 more Covid deaths, 1,540 infections; 4 micro-containment zones in Panaji

The Health Department on Saturday recorded a new spike in Covid cases with 1,540 persons testing positive for the infection. While the total active cases have risen to 12,078, the daily positivity rate stood at 39.1 per cent.

A total of 17 Covid deaths were included in the mortality bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services. The total Covid victim count of the State has now touched 993.

Of these, 10 deaths occurred at South Goa District Hospital in Margao and seven at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim. 

DHS stated that two patients died within 12 hours and that both patients were symptomatic for three days prior to reporting to the hospital.

The deceased persons include a 31 year-old man from Curtorim, a 38 year-old man, a 42 year-old  man from Betki, a 45 year-old man from Mapusa, a 49 year-old  man from Vasco, a 49 year-old  man from Cansaulim, a 61  year-old man from Bardez, a 62 year-old  man from Bardez, a 64 year-old man from Calangute, a 65 year-old  man, a 65 year-old man from Candolim, a 66 year-old man from Vasco, a 68 year-old  man from Vasco, a 70 year-old  man from Tiswadi, a 75 year-old  man from Pernem, a 75 year-old  man from Vasco and an 87 year-old  man from Mormugao.

Meanwhile, North Goa Collector on Saturday issued an order declaring four micro-containment zones in Panaji after a high number of Covid cases were detected. These are at Datta Aapartment and Sai Prasad building near Ram temple and Masjid in Bhatlem-Taleigao, Building C & D of Madhuban Complex at Tambdimati-St Inez, Building 1 in Models Estate, Caranzalem-Taleigao and H.No.ENT C-16/146/1 Siddhi Vinayak Society in Vodlembhat.
