Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Goa legislative assembly that the Education department has completed the entire process of recruiting primary teachers which had commenced earlier and some 180-odd teachers will be taken on the rolls within the next eight days.Qualified and suitable candidates have already been shortlisted in the process which had however gotten delayed due to the reservation roster system.
Sawant said: "The process got delayed because of the roster system. There was shortage of candidates to fill the statutory ST quota and also some other reserved categories. The file had to be sent back to the department which caused the delay."
Sawant assured the House that all vacant positions in primary schools will be filled after the appointment of the 180-plus teachers is done.
He was responding to a question posed by Independent legislator from Sanguem Prasad Gaonkar during Question Hour. Gaonkar had asked about vacancies in primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in his Sanguem constituency.
Sawant also told Gaonkar that the vacancies in Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools will be filled by promotion within six months.
Sawant also said that the Government is in favour of amalgamating some government primary schools which face low enrollment with nearby government-aided schools run by the private sector if the proposal comes from parents and the local community.
The issue of government primary schools running with a handful of students enrolled was raised by Pratapsing Rane who said that one such school from his constituency should be handed over to be run by a private aided school in the vicinity. lated.
