19 new cases in Pernem

Nineteen new Covid caseswere detected in Pernem on Monday, taking the total cases to 1,262 in the taluka.

The new cases weredetected in Parcem (3), Arambol (3), Korgao (1), Morjim (1), Paliem (1), Pernemtown (1), Valpe-Virnoda (4), Tuem (1), Agarwaddo (1) and Mandrem (3).
Mopa is the worst hit panchayat with 210 cases, of which around 180 are from theMopa airport area alone. Mandrem (146), Pernem town (102), Tuem (87), Dhargal(77), Arambol (69) and Korgao (67) are the other most-affected villages.

Twelve persons succumbedto the virus from Pernem taluka.
Despite a spike in Covid cases, there has been no sign of the launch of theCovid care centre at Sawalwaddo-Pernem.

Rains: Met dept issues red alert for 24 hours

THE GOAN I NETWORKPANAJIIncessant rains that hit Goa since Sunday night have prompted the weather bureau to raise the warning from orange to red for Monday. The Indian Meteorology Department has warned of the possibility of "flood-like situations", particularly in Bicholim and Pernem. Elsewhere in Paroda, reports have come in that a couple, whose car was stuck in a flood, was rescued.
