The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Thursday sentenced Advocate Aires Rodrigues to one-year imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a woman through social media post.
Rodrigues has decided to challenge the order before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
The matter pertains to a complaint filed by the woman accusing him of defaming her.
The police registered an FIR against Rodrigues on November 27, 2017, at the Anjuna Police Station and within a week, transferred the case to the Crime Branch.
Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant, who investigated the case filed a 210-page charge sheet against Rodrigues under Sections 354 (A) (IV), 509, 201, and 203 of the Indian Penal Code. The trial commenced on January 5, 2021.
Rodrigues said he will challenge the order in the high court while pointing out that the former minister’s statement was not recorded nor was he cited as a witness in the case.
