Verna Police have arrested two persons in connection with a brutal assault incident reported at Birla Cross, Cortalim.
The accused, identified as Bijay Mal and Kina Mal, both residents of Birla Cross, Verna, and natives of West Bengal, were taken into custody following a complaint lodged by Shankar Ghatowal of Puruliya, West Bengal.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on January 12, 2025, at approximately 11 pm, when the accused, acting with common intent, allegedly attacked Shubankar Ghatowal, the complainant's brother, with a glass bottle and a tree branch, resulting in injuries to his face, head, and causing a serious injury to his left eye.
The accused also reportedly assaulted four other individuals”Abhijit Pal, Sushant Mahato, Pawan Rajwar, and Ramesh Rajwar”all roommates of Shubankar Ghatowal. They sustained bodily injuries while attempting to rescue him during the altercation.
The police have registered an offence under Sections 118(2), 115(2), read with 3(5) of the BNS Act. The accused, both residing at Birla Cross have been arrested and remanded to three days of police custody for further investigation.
The case is being investigated by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
