2 arrested for multiple burglaries in Pernem

Police recover gold & silver ornaments worth over Rs 17L during probe

Two persons have been arrested on charges of burgling gold and cash worth Rs 7 lakh from a house at Virnoda-Pernem.

According to police, Nilesh Arondekar (48) had complained that unknown accused had broken into his house by cutting open the lock of the main door sometime between 10.10 am and 1 pm on August 6, 2025. The burglars had broken open the lock of a cupboard and had stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh and cash of Rs 1 lakh, all worth Rs 7 lakh.

During investigations, Rohan Padwal (29) of Pernem and his associate, Jagannath, also known as Ketan Bagkar (20) of Ramnagar-Colvale, were arrested in this connection.

During interrogation, it was revealed that accused Padwal and Bagkar have allegedly been involved in a series of burglaries in the Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuem and Korgao areas since December 2024, with five different offences registered at the Pernem police station.

During investigation, police on Wednesday recovered more stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 17.56 lakh at the instance of Bagkar at Malpe.

The two accused were produced before the JMFC in Pernem and were remanded to police custody for five days.

PSI Tukaram Chodankar is conducting investigations under the supervision of Pernem PI Nitin Halarnkar and the guidance of Pernem SPDO Salim Shaikh and North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar.
