The crew members, however, were rescued by the local fishermen as well as by the Drishti life saving teams.
Traditional fishermen Pele Fernandes said his fishing vessel capsized while returning to the shore on Sunday with a catch of the prized solar shrimp. He said all the crew members were safe after they were rescued by the fishermen and the life saving team.
Pele has suffered a loss of around Rs three lakh as the motors and nets were damaged in the incident.
“My boat capsized off the Benaulim-Varca coast when it almost reached the shore after being hit by a huge wave. There was another incident off the Varca coast”, he added.
Meanwhile, Dhristi has said its life saving team rescued eight persons, all at Benaulim beach. “The rescued fishermen hailed from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Aurangabad and Goa. The rescue took place in three separate incidents which involved a quadruple rescue”, the agency said.

The statement said all the eight rescues which took place on Monday in south Goa involved fishing boats. “When approaching the shore the fishing boat hit a rough wave. The fishing staff onboard panicked and jumped into the waters fearing that it may capsize”, it added.
Drishti lifesavers Dashrath Sangodkar, Ganesh Awadhkar, Sarvesh Gaonkar and Yogesh Gaonkar rushed into the waters to rescue the males. Two jet skis were launched for the rescue operation. Assisted by the team, all 05 males were brought to shore. In similar incidents, three other fishermen were rescued when they too jumped into the waters in panic.
Over the weekend, Drishti's lifesavers conducted a triple rescue at Varca beach involving males aged 26, 30 and 34 years hailing from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
In similar incidents a double and triple rescue was conducted at Benaulim beach also involving fishing boats.
