Claiming there had been a number of flaws in the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021, the Sattari Bhumiputra Sanghatana (SBS) has demanded amendments in the bill.
Addressing a news conference in Valpoi, Ganpat Gaonkar of SBS said a big rally had been organised in Valpoi last year regarding land ownership in Sattari taluka.
“We had requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for four major demands on the issue of land ownership in Sattari taluka. One of the demands on land ownership rights has been almost accepted by the government through this bill,” he said.
Rajesh Gaonkar said the State government had taken a bold decision to allot land ownership rights for people deprived of having their own houses.
“However, this bill states that compensation for the land has to be paid to the government or owner of the original land. The government has waive off or relax this requirement,” said Rajesh Gaonkar.
Ranjit Rane stated that the definition of ‘Bhumiputra’ needs to be changed in the new bill.
They also opposed extending the benefits to those living in Goa for 30 years and said it would harm the Niz Goenkars who have been demanding land rights prior to liberation.
They said their movement would continue till all the demands of Bhumiputras in Sattari taluka are met.
