Two commercial establishments in Pilerne-Marra were fined for failing to segregate garbage, before handing it over to the Saligao solid waste management plant.
Goa Waste Management Corporation MD Sanjeet Rodrigues along with Pilerne panchayat sarpanch, panchayat secretary and panchas on Friday paid a surprise visit to some commercial establishments and housing societies in the village, to verify if they were segregating garbage waste from their establishments/societies.
The Saligao solid waste management plant has been repeatedly asking the panchayat not to collect mixed waste from establishments, societies and homes.
Following a meeting with officials from the Saligao
solid waste management plant and panchayat, it was decided to conduct joint inspections at establishments and societies.
During one such inspection on Friday, two commercial establishments were fined Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000 for handing over mixed garbage.
