Two garbage collectors, including a woman, from a panchayat area, were arrested by the Fatorda police who recovered from them around 17 vehicle batteries.
The duo hails from Karnataka and has been arrested in connection with the theft of battery of a tipper truck. The police have recovered the stolen property at the instance of the accused.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Sanjay Rajaram Naik, a resident of Gogol stating that the battery of his tipper truck parked at an open space has been stolen by unknown culprits, the police arrested Kiran Aiwale, a native of Nippani-Karnataka and Zarina Dadami, a native of Dharwad-Karnataka, both presently residing at Borda. The Exide battery is worth around Rs 13,000.
Fatorda PI Kapil Nayak informed that during interrogations of the duo, the police recovered from their possession around 17 batteries. He pointed out that members of the police local intelligence unit were put on the job to keep track on the movement of the suspicious persons.
“Interrogation of the accused has revealed that they were being engaged in a panchayat area for garbage collection. We suspect that the duo was involved in garbage collection during daytime and allegedly involved in the theft of batteries,” he said.
