Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Friday, November 19, 2021, was a golden day in the history of India and it will go down in history like August 15 (Independence Day) and January 26 (Republic Day).
Referring to the central government’s decision to repeal farm laws, Kejriwal said, “Today, it is not only the victory of farmers, but democracy has also won a huge fight. The farmers have proved to all the governments that in a democracy, the governments will always have to listen to the people.”
He said, “In the history of the whole world, there would hardly have been a movement bigger or longer than this. Millions of people fought in such a peaceful manner. In the harsh sun, in the rain, in the cold, they did not back down. The whole system did its best to break this movement, yet they could not break it.”
However, he said, was very sad that more than 700 farmers lost their lives. “The deaths could have been avoided had these laws been rolled back earlier. I salute these martyrs and bow down before their families,” he stated.
Kejriwal talked about how all sorts of attempts were made to break the spirits of the farmers by calling them terrorists, Khalistanis and anti-nationals but like the freedom fighters, the farmers fought and won the fight. He also said today’s day is a lesson for the children and youth of the country that if they fight peacefully with the right intention, then no matter how difficult or far the destination may be, success will be achieved.
He said the water cannons dried up in front of the strong courage of the farmers. “The laathis of the government were left broken. All their tricks fell flat, but the government could not break the confidence and spirit of the farmers,” he praised.
