Suman Gaonkar resigned as sarpanch and panch of Gaondongrim Panchayat after her preliminary selection as an accountant in the posts announced by Directorate of Accounts under the ST reserved category.
Gaonkar, who hails from Talem area, had got elected in Ward 1 (Karvem) and the post of sarpanch in the nine-member Gaondongrem panchayat has been reserved for women during the current term which ends in June 2022.
When contacted, Gaonkar said she had submitted her resignation as sarpanch and panch to the Director of Panchayats on Thursday.
“I had applied for the post of accountant and have got selected for the same. However, the appointment procedures, including medical and other necessities, are going on,” said Gaonkar, who is among five persons selected as accountant in the Reserved ST category.
