Verna police have solved a theft case involving construction materials worth around Rs 2 lakh with the arrest of two accused and the recovery of the stolen property.
The accused have been identified as Punit Babdin (30), a resident of Raibandar and native of Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, who had been working at a scrap yard for the past one-and-a-half months, and Sunil Mahngu Prasad (31), originally from Banda district and currently residing at Shapur-Bandora, Ponda. Police said Sunil has been operating a scrap yard for the past 15 years.
The case was registered following a complaint by contractor Maiboob Hawaldar (30) of Sancoale, who reported that between 6 pm on July 19 and 9.30 am on July 20, unknown persons stole construction materials from a plot behind Kesarval Hotel in Verna. The stolen items included 40 MDS metal shuttering plates, 60 jack props and TMT bar wastage, collectively valued at around Rs 2 lakh.
During the investigation, police traced and recovered the stolen materials from the accused. Both were arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, who remanded them to five days' police custody. Further investigation by PSI Prisley Carvalho is underway to determine whether they were involved in similar thefts.
