CANACONA
Two candidates, including a rebel BJP candidate, filed their nomination papers on Thursday to contest the upcoming ZP elections from Poinguinim constituency.
Both candidates, ex-Poinguinim panch Diksha Pagi and Poinguinim former deputy sarpanch Vipin Keshav Prabhugaonkar submitted their nomination papers as Independent candidates for the Poinguinim ZP seat.
With BJP announcing former Loliem-Polem sarpanch Ajay (Ajit) Lolienkar as its official candidature, Prabhugaonkar along with his panch wife, Surekha Prabhugaonkar, and his mother, former panch Shilpa Prabhugaonkar, ended their 23-year association with BJP, before submitting his nomination papers to Canacona Returning Officer Vipul Naik Gaunkar on Thursday.
“While rejecting my request for a party nomination, BJP instead allotted the party ticket to a non-karyakarta which is against the party’s own practiced norms and a direct insult to any honest karyakarta,” said Vipin Prabhugaonkar.
“The BJP allotted the party ticket to someone who has never worked for the party, and moreover has always been a critic of BJP until recently. My mother, wife and I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP party and I have filed my nomination as Independent candidate to contest Poinguinim ZP seat.”
