Two young women in their early 20s sustained injuries after a fire broke out in a third-floor flat in Revora, Bardez, early Thursday morning.
According to fire officials, a suspected short circuit in an air-conditioning unit is believed to have triggered the blaze. The two women were asleep when the fire erupted, but alert neighbours in adjoining flats quickly intervened and managed to pull them to safety.
Both injured victims were rushed to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, for treatment. A local resident who volunteered to assist in the rescue also sustained minor injuries, officials said. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who were promptly alerted, arrived at the spot and brought the flames under control.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the flat owner suffered property losses amounting to around Rs 5 lakh. Further investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
