CANACONA

Two persons suffered minor injuries after their car rammed into a stray cattle and killed the animal, while also damaging a street light on the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass at Rajbhag-Canacona in the wee hours of Saturday.

The driver, Deepender Ahlawal (32), an audit officer at the Karwar naval base, and another occupant, Akash, were provided first aid at Community Health Centre (CHC) and later discharged.

According to sources, the Haryana-registered car had reached a slight turn near the exit to Rajbhag road on the Canacona Bypass, when the vehicle knocked down a stray cattle, killing it on the spot. The driver is

believed to have lost control of the car and struck a street light on road divider of the bypass, before veering off the road. The car was badly damaged in the mishap.

With the street light almost uprooted and lying dangerously leaning on the road, a municipal vehicle was pressed into service to lift the dead cattle. Hawaldar Pradeep Velip is investigating the mishap.
