2 more monkey fever cases strike Valpoi

Two more villagers from Koparde and Velguem in Valpoi were tested positive for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or Monkey Fever, taking the toll to five positive patients since November this year.

According to Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi Health Officer Dr Gajanan Naik, the actual season of KFD have started, soon after rainy season. “In less than two months, five new KFD positive patients were reported by Manipal Centre for Virus Research based at CHC Valpoi,” informed Dr Naik.

Five positive patients are from Velguem, Hivre, Koparde and Khadki. Velguem is a new village added in KFD list, where two positive patients have been found and the remaining three are from Koparde, Hivre and Khadki.

“Four patients were discharged after taking treatment from Community Health Center, Valpoi and one patient, who was referred to GMC Hospital in Bambolim is also out of danger,” added Dr Naik.

“We recently conducted a vaccination drive in Uste village and plan to undertake vaccination and advocacy drives in Velguem this week,” Dr Naik said.
