Two elderly pedestrians died after being struck by cars in separate accidents at Saligao and Siolim.
In the first incident near the Saligao church around 6 am on Friday, Margaret Rodrigues (85) of Saligao was hit by a car driven by Vasant Shirodkar (56). She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Mapusa District Hospital, where she died at around 11.30 am while undergoing treatment. Shirodkar later surrendered at the Saligao police station, claiming dense fog had reduced visibility. He was arrested and later released on bail.
