Two tonnes of bananas which were recently seized by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) from the Mapusa Yard have tested positive for the banned ripening agent, Ethaphone.
An FDA team comprising Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar, and Lenin De Sa conducted an inspection of the premises belonging to two individuals.
Acting on these findings, and in the interest of public health, the FDA destroyed the entire stock of 2 tonnes of bananas. A police complaint has been lodged against the vendors involved.
