Having identified 20 hotspots in the State where stray cattle endanger traffic, the government has decided to lift these cattle and shift them to goshalas or shelter homes on priority.
A joint meeting between officials of the Directorate of Panchayats, municipal administration and the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services was convened to finalise the action plan.
"Ten hotspots each from North and South Districts have been selected for this exercise,” said an official from the AHVS.
The government has already notified a hike in the grants from Rs 75 to Rs 150 per stray cattle to goshalas taking care of stray cattle.
Besides, there were no grants to lift the stray cattle, but now a grant of Rs 2,000 will be provided for the purpose. There is also a provision for grants towards medicines and other expenses.
The goshalas are reportedly satisfied with the new grants, and authorities hope the issue of stray cattle on roads will now be tackled with the new action plan.
An NGO had approached the high court accusing the State government of being inactive over the stray cattle issue and the matter has been taken up by the court.
