2,300 left out voters apply for inclusion at 3-day SIR camps

PANAJI

As many as 2,300 voters, whose names were left out of the State’s electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), have applied for inclusion through Form 6 during the three-day special enrolment camps held across Goa from October 7 to 9.

The enrolment drive was conducted following the SIR exercise, which identified 1,00,042 electors under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) category, raising concerns over the exclusion of eligible voters from the electoral rolls.

According to data available with the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), the three-day camps received 2,300 Form 6 applications seeking inclusion of names in the electoral rolls. Of these, 906 applications were received in South Goa, 745 in North Goa and 649 in Kushawati district.

Sources said the applicants included voters who were left out during the SIR as well as first-time voters seeking enrolment.

The SIR had identified 25,574 electors as deceased, 29,729 as absent or untraceable and 40,469 as permanently shifted.

Besides fresh enrolments, the camps also received 526 Form 8 applications seeking corrections in existing electoral details, including transfer of names and change of address. Another 113 voters submitted Form 7 applications seeking deletion of names from the electoral rolls. Of these, 70 applications were received in Kushawati district and 43 in South Goa.

The latest enrolment figures come after around 35,000 voters had already been enrolled through Form 6 following the SIR exercise, as reported earlier, indicating that a substantial number of voters affected by the revision have sought restoration of their names in the electoral rolls.

The special camps were organised on the directions of the Election Commission of India as part of efforts to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral process. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) also undertook door-to-door visits to identify and facilitate enrolment of eligible voters.

However, the consolidated data of the entire exercise is yet to be compiled.

The lists prepared by the BLOs will be shared with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties. The final booth-wise lists will also be made available to political party representatives, providing them another opportunity to identify eligible voters whose names may have been left out and facilitate their enrolment.
