2,500 applications cleared in 4 days: Power Minister

Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday said around 2,500 of the 4,500 applications pending for load change and change in phase in the last one year have been cleared in the last four days after he took charge as power minister.

Minister claimed the remaining backlog will be cleared by Monday.

Dhavalikar was speaking to media persons along the sidelines of a programme organised at Goa Engineering College to celebrate World Book Day.

Dhavalikar informed reporters that phase-wise underground cabling in the next five-year period at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore would be done in some parts of the State, while new power stations will come at Verna, Sancoale and Ponda.

To another query, Dhavalikar said the State government will adhere to Supreme Court guidelines in case of a supply of power from the Goa-Tamnar Transmission Project.

During the event, Dhavalikar felicitated 20 GEC students who were declared winners in an essay competition.

The students were given a copy of Harish Mehta’s book ‘Maverick Effect’ based on India’s IT revolution. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) President Dr Anil Saharsrabudhe, Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat, GEC Principal Rajesh Lohani were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.


1 Megawatt solar power at GEC

Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday said a 1 Megawatt solar power plant would be installed on the premises of Goa Engineering College (GEC) at Farmagudi.

“This will cater to the power needs of GEC and surrounding areas in Farmagudi,” said Dhavalikar.
