The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) in association with Vasco police, urban health centre & KTC shifted 26 homeless persons to a shelter home managed by the NGO El Shaddai at Verna.
The 25 males and a female were shifted to the shelter home after formalities of police verification, health check-up and a Covid test.
Social activist Shalaka Kambli had informed MMC Vice Chairperson Shraddha Mahale about the homeless persons in the city.
Councillor Devita Arolkar, Community organiser of MMC Nandita Halankar, Suchita Thakker, Kiran Naik and Sudeep Dhargalkar were involved in the efforts to relocate the homeless persons.
Mahale thanked Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, MMC Chief Officer Jayant Tari, KTC Asst Depot Manager (Vasco) Vasco police and the Urban Health Centre for their support in the initiative.
