Calangute Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly aiding the escape of the main accused in a stabbing incident that occurred at Khobrawaddo, Calangute, on Sunday night.
Arun Shankar Pawar was taken into custody for reportedly helping Akash Lamani flee the scene after he allegedly stabbed Arun Lamani, a native of Karnataka, following a dispute over a tattoo business.
The victim sustained serious injuries in the attack and is currently recuperating. The main accused, Akash Lamani, remains absconding.
Police sources said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him at the earliest.
In a parallel development, Calangute Police intensified their enforcement measures by launching a special drive and night patrolling operation on Monday night. During the operation, five touts were arrested for allegedly harassing and misleading tourists in the area.
Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik informed that such drives will be carried out regularly.
“Strict action will be taken against those who harass or cheat tourists. Night patrolling and vigilance in the area will be a daily affair,” he said.
The police action is seen as part of a broader effort to curb rising incidents of crime and tourist harassment in the popular coastal destination.
