BJP, allies meet to plan for Assembly session

PANAJI

The BJP legislature wing and its alliance partners held a meeting on Tuesday ahead of the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, which begins on July 21.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired the meeting, which was also attended by BJP State President Damodar Naik and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sawant said it was called to plan for the upcoming session. He said ministers and MLAs discussed the Bills to be tabled, policy decisions and other matters.

Sawant clarified that the session has not been shortened, as claimed by the opposition.

He explained that while the session was planned for 18 days, three days were used in the last session for the Governor’s address, leaving 15 working days.

MGP MLA and Minister Sudin Dhavalikar could not attend the meeting due to prior commitments.

Meanwhile, the opposition has criticised Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar for attending the meeting.

“The Speaker’s presence at the meeting raises questions about his impartiality and whether he is acting as a puppet. The Speaker’s Chair is not the BJP President’s Chair. This is shameful, undemocratic and dangerous,” the Goa Forward Party said.
