The main road to Sonal village from Valpoi has been inundated on account of heavy rains in the area.
VALPOI
For the second year in a row, residents of Sonal village in Sattari taluka have been cut off from Valpoi after the main road was inundated due to heavy rains in the area.
On Tuesday morning, the main road to Sonal was flooded at about 5 am due to an increase in the water level of the Mhadei river on Monday night following heavy rains for the past two days, disrupting normal life in the village.
The Gyansagar Vidyamandir school at Dhave Tar declared a holiday on Tuesday as children from Sonal village were unable to travel to school.
Traffic was also paralysed along the route, cutting off road connectivity to Valpoi town, and people were unable to proceed to their offices.
Sonal village faced a similar situation last year when the Sonal-Valpoi road was flooded and the village was cut off from Valpoi town for three days. Students and office-goers from Sonal were stranded in the village for three days.
At that time, the PWD had promised to initiate measures to prevent a similar situation this year.
However, locals were upset that no action had been taken and they were cut off once again this year as the road was flooded.
