In a tragic accident on Saturday night, a 26-year-old youth lost his life while another was seriously injured in a collision between two motorcycles near the MRF plant in Cunchelim, Mapusa.
The deceased has been identified as Aaron Fernandes, a resident of Maina-Siolim, who died on the spot. The injured youth, 21-year-old Rigved Gadgil, a resident of Cunchelim, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.
According to the police, the incident occurred when Fernandes and Gadgil, both riding separate two-wheelers were traveling from Siolim-Sodiem towards Cunchelim.
As they were descending the slope near the MRF shed, they reportedly lost control of their bikes and collided with each other. The impact caused both bikes to fall onto the side of the road.
Fernandes’ bike crashed into a compound wall, leaving him with fatal injuries, while Gadgil fell onto the road and sustained fractures. Both riders were initially rushed to North Goa District Hospital, where Fernandes was declared dead. Gadgil was later transferred to GMC for further treatment.
Mapusa police have conducted a panchanama and are investigating the incident further.
