27 lives lost to road mishaps in April

One person on an average lost their lives to road accidents on a daily basis in the month of April. Statistics released by the transport department revealed that in the 284 road accidents (24 fatal accidents, 17 of which were in South Goa) which occurred in April, 27 people have lost their lives.   

Also, the number of deaths in road accidents in South Goa was higher than compared to North Goa.   

In April, 21 deaths were reported in South Goa due to road accidents, while six deaths were reported in North Goa. Around 40 percent of this number were two-wheeler riders.   

Around 11 two wheeler riders died in road accident in this month. Other included one 4-wheeler driver, 6 pedestrians, 7 passengers, 1 cyclist and 1 other.   

Around 16 people were grievously injured while 71 persons suffered minor injuries.   

There were around 173 non-injury accidents which were recorded.   

Transport authorities also issued around 4726 challans in the month of April.
