Over 29,000 Goan artisans and have registered with the State government under the PM Vishwakarma scheme, under which the approved beneficiaries will receive five days of basic skill training, access to loans, incentives for digital transactions, and support to market themselves and their product.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday chaired a review meeting on the progress of the scheme in the State.

“The scheme has received tremendous response in the State with more than 29,000 applications,” Sawant tweeted after the meeting.

The CM informed that directions have been issued to the officials to start the procedure of training the applicants from the next week onwards.

Under the scheme, mooted through the industries department, the approved beneficiaries will receive five-day basic training.

Enrolment of the beneficiaries is being done by the Common Service Centres across the State in coordination with panchayats and municipal bodies.

The CM had earlier announced that under the scheme all persons in the state practicing 18 traditional trades like flower garland making, shoe repairing, carpenters, blacksmiths, etc, will receive Rs 17,500 in their bank account by December 15, 2023, provided they register on the scheme portal and get Vishwakarma certificates and ID cards.

One of the key objectives of the scheme is to ensure that small artisans and self-employed workers get access to credit to expand their business.

State authorities have been asked to coordinate with banks and non-banking finance companies to facilitate credit support for the beneficiaries.
