For the three Goan teams preparing to participate in the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention at Town Hall, Mangaluru, from November 3 to 15, the Guinness World Record attempt is about much more than numbers. It is an opportunity to celebrate their musical heritage, faith and love for Konkani. From a church choir bringing generations together through Gospel music to a cultural academy showcasing original compositions, each team has its own story and motivation for being part of the historic musical gathering.
Raiachim Pormollit Fulam, Raia, directed by George Fernandes, comprises choir members of the Raia Church from different age groups. Despite their generational differences, the members share a common passion for music, Konkani and faith. Fernandes said singing was not merely a form of musical expression for them but also a way of proclaiming the Good News, spreading God’s love and glorifying Him through music. He believes music has the power to unite generations, touch hearts and preserve language and traditions.

For the choir, participating in the record attempt is also an opportunity to celebrate Goan identity and give Konkani greater recognition. “As Goans, music is as much a part of our identity as football. It is woven into our culture, traditions, celebrations and faith. Our Konkani songs carry our stories, emotions and love for our mother tongue,” said Fernandes.
He hopes the initiative will inspire younger generations to embrace the language. While a world record may find a place in a book, he said, “our greatest achievement would be to keep Konkani alive in people’s hearts”.
Meanwhile, the Milagres Socio-Cultural, Sports & Film Craft Academy, Ucassaim, began preparing for the convention in July 2026. The group comprises 29 members, including three musicians, and will present 17 original songs composed by its coordinator and other members.
Milagres Carneiro said the group had been practising diligently and was confident of delivering its best performance. “We think we have practised very well and will give our best performance,” he said, adding that the compositions reflected the creative efforts of the members.
For Carneiro and his fellow participants, the opportunity holds immense personal significance. “This Guinness World Record attempt means a lot to me and my entire team. It is a lifetime achievement for us and a proud moment for all of us,” he said. Thanking Almighty God and Mandd Sobhann for organising the programme, he wished all participating teams the very best.

Established in 2024, Pormollit Nokhetram, Goa, is another team taking part in the convention. Coordinator Allwin Colaco said the group had chosen Gospel music for its performance and had been practising for a month. Michael Jude Gracias, a resident of Colaco’s ward, informed the group about the record attempt and encouraged its members to participate.
With their distinct musical styles and shared love for Konkani, the three teams hope to contribute to a celebration that brings together singers from across the world, giving their language and traditions greater recognition on the global stage.
