Porvorim Police on Friday busted an IPL cricket betting racket at Porvorim and arrested three persons in this connection.
According to Porvorim Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar, police during patrolling duty received credible information that some persons were illegally accepting bets for the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament in some premises at Goan Paradise Colony in Marra-Pilerne.
A search warrant was obtained and the premises was raided on Friday evening. Police found three persons illegally accepting bids through WhatsApp for the ongoing cricket match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The accused have been identified as Vipul Barot (33) of Ahmedabad, Ajay Amin Makwana (29) of Ahmedabad and Imtiyazbhai Chauhan (43) of Rajkot-Gujarat.
During the raid, various articles used for gaming consisting of mobile phones, laptops, Wifi router, cheque books and notebooks were seized, all valued at Rs 2 lakh.
An FIR under Section 3 and 4 of Goa Daman and Diu Public Gaming Act has been registered and the all accused have been arrested.
The raiding team was led by PI Anant Gaonkar and consisted of Lady Police sub Inspector Pranita Mandrekar, constables Utkarsh Dessai, Mahadev Naik and Sneha Gawas.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim and SP North Nidhin Valsan.
