Outgoing Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Nandadeep Raut on Tuesday said three main projects worth around Rs 23 crore are now being taken up by the GSUDA.
"I am glad that the much-awaited renovation of the MMC building has begun and the works are likely to be completed within 18 months,” Raut told reporters outside the MMC building.
“There is also a municipal school in the MMC building and the leaking roof had caused hardship to the staff and students. Now that the building is being renovated, the contractor will resolve these issues and I appeal to staff to cooperate with the contractor so that the work is completed soon.”
“Very soon, works on the other two projects -- Vasco fish market and old powerhouse building at Baina -- will start under GSUDA. The present MMC building which is a Portuguese heritage building will only add to the face-lift and the beauty of the port town once the renovation is complete.”
“I also appeal to all government offices housed in the MMC building to make necessary arrangements to shift to a different location so that the works of the renovation of the MMC building is not hampered," said Raut.
“I am pleased that the major development works proposed by me as chairperson just before the council dissolved are finally being taken up. An amount of Rs 23 crore has been transferred to GSUDA for these works,” he added.
