MMC to shift offices as building renovation begins: Former CO

VASCO

Outgoing Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat on Tuesday said the council offices will soon shift to a temporary location, as renovation of the building has begun.

Kamat told The Goan that a proposal to move the offices into the newly built Sada market complex has been sent to the government but the MMC is yet to receive the nod and in the meantime, the MMC is likely to move into rented premises.

"We had to start the MMC building renovation work as it was being discussed for over two years and the work order has finally been issued. At least, the roofing work must be taken up before monsoons.”

“The roof work of the municipal school on the first floor of the MMC building has been taken up and we have made provisions to shift the school to another school. School equipment is presently stored in the basement of the MMC building,” said Kamat.

Kamat said renovation work would begin from the top floor and MMC offices would temporarily be shifting soon.

"We have made efforts to find an ideal location to shift and we have sent a proposal to the government to shift the offices into the new Sada market complex.”

“Presently, the Sada market complex does not have occupancy certificate, water connection, electricity connection and we also require various NOCs which could take time.”

“The other option is to opt for rented premises and we are considering this as well," said the former chief officer.
