3 killed in 3 days in Bardez road mishaps

MAPUSA

In yet another fatal road accident, a 28-year-old resident of Mandrem died after his two-wheeler collided with a tempo along the Mapusa-Siolim road on Friday morning, making it three deaths in three road accidents in the last three days in Bardez.

The deceased Sanjeet Das, who is a native of Bihar, was working at a hotel in Mandrem.

The pillion rider is also seriously injured and has been admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for treatment.

The accident occurred at around 9.30 pm at Ganeshpuri, Housing Board along the Mapusa-Siolim road.

Anjuna Police informed that the deceased who was riding an Activa scooter was coming towards Mapusa while the tempo driver was proceeding toward Siolim.

According to police, the two vehicles collided at a sharp turn resulting in the death of the two-wheeler rider.

The rider was wearing a helmet but yet lost his life in the tragic accident.

Anjuna Police has filed a case against the tempo driver Ram Yadav (28) of Taleigao but native of Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh for rash and negligent driving resulting in death and arrested him.

On Wednesday, two persons riding two-wheelers died in road accidents in Bardez.

A 62-year-old resident of Cunchelim, Mapusa succumbed to his injuries in the hospital after his two-wheeler collided with a pickup in Mapusa while a 45-year-old rider died at Sirsaim, after he collided with a goods carrier.

Incidentally, the fatal mishaps have happened despite a series of efforts carried out by the police to sensitise motorists about the need to follow traffic rules.

Last month the Mapusa SDPO initiated a special photography drive where helmetless riders were photographed and challans issued to them through the post. Special drives were also carried out in the jurisdiction of Mapusa, Colvale and Anjuna Police Station to create awareness among motorists on following the Motor Vehicle Act.

“These accidents happen only because of rough riding/driving and failure to follow traffic rules. People have no patience. Everyone is in a hurry to reach their destination early, ride fast and overtake anyhow,” said Mapusa SDPO, Jivba Dalvi.

He said people lack road discipline which is crucial while riding/driving.
