Election staff gear up to carry ballot boxes and other material for polls in three panchayats of Casarvarnem, Alorna and Chandel-Hassapur in Pernem taluka on Friday.

“The government machinery is all set to conduct elections, while around 300 police personnel have been deputed for the panchayat election process at 17 booths,” said Election Officer and Pernem Mamlatdar Anant Malik.
Malik appealed to citizens take part in elections, while maintaining law and order. “If any untoward incident occurs at any booth, public is advised to contact officers available at that booth and police,” said Malik.
Forty contestants are in the fray and two candidates have already been elected unopposed. Counting will take place at the Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye College hall on December 11. Casarvarnem has 15 contestants, followed by Alorna (14) and Chandel (11).
At Alorna, Vinod Harijan has been elected unopposed from Ward 1 (reserved for SC). The other candidates are Divya Naik and Smita Naik (Ward 2), Bhushan Parab and Ramchandra Parab (Ward 3), Maheshwar Parab and Suchal Revadkar (Ward 4), Baban Naik and Shailesh Naik (Ward 5), Aarti Raul, Darshana Naik and Rajani Halarnkar (Ward 6) and Patricia Fernandes, Siddhi Raul and Supriya Gondhalkar (Ward 7).
At Casarvarnem, the candidates are Sakshi Naik and Sanjana Naik (Ward 1), Chandrakant Vernekar, Mahesh Nalini Naik, and Vrushali Naik (Ward 2), Dipesh Naik, Navnath Naik and Suvarna Keni (Ward 3), Neha Parab, Priyanka Parab and Sonam Parab (Ward 4) and Avani Gad, Kamini Shetkar and Sneha Palyekar (Ward 5).
At Chandel-Hassapur, the candidates are Prajay Malik (elected unopposed in Ward 1), Neha Malik, Rima Malik and Sonali Malik (Ward 2), Anant Bhaip, Kashmir D’Souza and Tulshidas Gaus (Ward 3), Anand Mahale, Bala Shetkar and Tushar Chari (Ward 4), Nikita Malik and Ruchira Malik (Ward 5).
Alorna panchayat has 1,538 voters (786 male and 752 female), while Casarvarnem has 1,086 voters (548 male and 538 female) and Chandel-Hassapur has 1,764 voters (901 male and 863 female).
